Guest BagPuss Posted May 1, 2006 Report Posted May 1, 2006 Hey everyone, Am I glad i found this forum. :D Anyway, we've just bought our first Galaxy, a 1997 2.0 GLX in a stunning Deep Metalic Green, a bit of a change from my Cinquecento! :D Anyway, we've replaced a few things already, new Exhaust and a Thermostat that was semi stuck open, in a hope to get some more MPG's. My Question is What MPG should I be getting? At the moment my driving is normal, not speeding etc, just taking it easy.I went on a 360 mile trip to pick some Galaxy Ghia wheels up at the weekend and worked out on my Fuel Comsumption program that I was getting roughly 30MPG? What are you getting? This is why I went for a 2.0 litre and not the 2.3litre version. Thanks all. Quote
mumof4 Posted May 1, 2006 Report Posted May 1, 2006 hmm..did you happen to get the wheels off ebay perchance??????there were a set of 4 on there that went for just over 300!! Any way..i get about 45+mpg on mine..havent checked since i put the new MAF on so could be higher.Thats on a 1.9Tdi. :D Quote

tim-spam Posted May 1, 2006 Report Posted May 1, 2006 Bear in mind that MO4 has a diesel, which will be miles better than a petrol engined Galaxy for economy.30mpg sounds pretty good to me for a petrol Galaxy. Quote
teresa Posted May 1, 2006 Report Posted May 1, 2006 :o wow ive got a 2.3 si :o im getting roughly 36 mpg sometimes more so that aint to bad. but thats only since we fixed the smell of fuel before that we were gettin about 27 mpg Quote

danyoda1 Posted May 1, 2006 Report Posted May 1, 2006 just got back from a 700 mile round trip going down to the south coast. my 2.8 v6 showed 26.8mpg on the computer but i worked it out about 29mpg from the fuel reciepts. i didn't think this was too bad for the guzzler!! Quote
mumof4 Posted May 1, 2006 Report Posted May 1, 2006 I'll bring my cossie then to the meet! Quote
Guest BagPuss Posted May 1, 2006 Report Posted May 1, 2006 So it does varie quite a bit then.Might have to look at getting new filter etc and do a bit of a service. Thanks everyone  Quote
tiny Posted May 5, 2006 Report Posted May 5, 2006 Have a look at www.parkers.co.uk Its a great source of technical data and of course prices. The 2.0 cars average 28mpg in both manual and auto. The 2.3 averages 28 for the manuals and 25 for the auto's. My 2.0 averages 25/26 round town and about 30 on a run, so I guess parkers average figures are just about right. Quote
Guest MATT jr Posted May 6, 2006 Report Posted May 6, 2006 thats not bad for a petrol. our galaxy was only managing 30mpg round town (with faulty maf) That's mostly economy driving, there's just a few horrid roundabouts, where if u dont shift, someone WILL run in the back of you, worst roundabout i have to date encountered, and the bad thing, is i have to tackle it about 4 - 6 times a day! its annoying, because its the only roundabout where i normally have to stop, all the others are much easier to approach, and get in "the gap" without stopping - which is better for mpg. however, i am hoping a new maf sensor, will improve the mpgs.its just cost me Quote
Guest BagPuss Posted May 6, 2006 Report Posted May 6, 2006 I'm using mine most days as I car share. My journey when i do use it is 26 miles on a run, so 52 miles return. Yesterday i filled it up from just under the half way point. I covered just over 300 miles / week and put Quote
Guest Cepheus Posted May 6, 2006 Report Posted May 6, 2006 Mine's a 2.3 and I get upto 26 around town and upto 37 on motorway runs, depending on traffic, driving conditions etc. Most of my travelling is around town and fuel comp is showing an average of 24.8. BTW .... they wouldn't be Mk11 alloys that you're putting on a MK1 Gal are they???If so, stop .... do a search about it, and then dont put them on! Quote

mumof4 Posted May 7, 2006 Report Posted May 7, 2006 Not read the thread from when i went away but i just had to share with you what mpg i got travelling home from merseyside. 500 miles exactly..averaging 80/95 mph..(hubby was driving not me) the average mpg was 106!!!!! :o :o :o :o ...thats what my reading was!!! ;) yes i know its wrong...every time i looked it was about 35/43 mpg. :D Quote
Andrew T Posted May 8, 2006 Report Posted May 8, 2006 I have had mk11 wheels on may Mk1 for nearly two years never had a problem, cover 25K without a hitch. Is there surpose to be a problem ? I've not heard of a problem with putting M11 wheels on a MK1, but there is a problem putting Mk1 15" wheels on Mk11s because of the larger brake discs fitted, (although it doesn't apply to the first year or so of MK11 production -those with solid headrests- as they still had Mk1 spec brakes).
